One piece, three outfits: a restyling challenge using clothes you already own

Choose one piece you like but rarely wear. The challenge is to create three useful outfits around it using what is already in your wardrobe. There is no required colour palette, body shape or number of basics: start with your own routine.

Fashion Revolution's wardrobe-refresh resources include a styling demonstration about making creative use of existing clothes. The exercise below is our own way to turn that principle into a discussion.

Give each outfit a real purpose

  1. Everyday: build something you could comfortably wear for an ordinary day.
  2. A different setting: change the layer, shoes or accessories for another activity you actually do.
  3. A new combination: pair the piece with something you have not tried before.

Try each combination on if practical. Sit down, move around and check whether the layers work together. An appealing photo is only part of the decision. Write one useful note for each outfit, such as "needs the shorter jacket" or "works with flat shoes".

If a combination does not work, identify the reason before adding anything to a shopping list. It might need a different tuck, an existing belt, a repaired fastening or a different occasion. If you do identify a gap, describe the job the missing piece would do instead of beginning with a brand name.

You can post your three combinations using your own photos or write a simple outfit list. Explain why you prefer one and invite specific suggestions. Keep feedback about the outfit choices, with no pressure to change someone's body or follow a trend.

Community prompt: What is your starting piece, and which of your three combinations would you actually wear tomorrow?
